common questions
Psychological therapy is provided to assist and support individuals in improving their emotional well being in a safe space. It involves mostly talking, and creating an individualised plan about what will be helpful for you. The process utilises evidence based therapeutic techniques, that have been throughly researched.
Each session is 50 mins in duration.
Dr Moriarty accepts private clients without a referral, but a Mental Health Plan obtained from your Gp, a paediatrician or a psychiatrist, allows for the Medicare rebate, which covers a proportion of your consultation. If you are claiming the Medicare rebate, you are not able to also claim a private health insurance rebate.
Dr Moriarty suggests that the first two to three appointments are scheduled fortnightly and then usually monthly appointments work for most clients. Your appointment schedule will be individualised to best support you.
The APS code of Ethics states that Personal information gathered as part of psychological therapy will remain confidential except when:
it is subpoenaed by a court; or failure to disclose the information would place you or another person at serious risk to life, health or safety; or
your prior approval has been obtained to provide a written report to another professional or agency. e.g., a GP or a lawyer; or discuss the material with another person, eg. a parent, employer or health provider; or
disclose the information in another way; or you would reasonably expect your personal information to be disclosed to another professional or agency (e.g. your GP) and disclosure of your personal information to that third party is for a purpose which is directly related to the primary purpose for which your personal information was collected; or disclosure is otherwise required or authorised by law.
Please note that if you are attending via a Mental Health Plan it is a Medicare requirement that brief reports outlining the psychological strategies employed are sent to your GP. If you have any concerns please do not hesitate to discuss this with me.
If you are a new client, please contact Dr Moriarty. Existing clients can book appointments via the portal. If you require an appointment and there is not one available online, please contact Dr Moriarty to be placed on the cancellation list.
